The Archive-At-Large project seeks to collect orphaned objects and preserve them for the use and enjoyment by the world at large. ‘Orphaned objects’ include any items that have a personal touch that are no longer associated with their original owners. Photographs, postcards, letters, journals, and other items can often be found in thrift stores, antique shops, flea markets, swap meets, and even occasionally as found objects.
Creativity will always find a way. Over the last twenty years, I’ve followed my unrestrained whims and produced an eclectic body of work. Though there are other mediums that find their way into the creation queue- collage dominates the time spent making. It is taking elements from every available source and giving them new life as something different- something special. In this way, the person and the piece are effected, both are reborn.
As the archivist for prolific photographer Scott Hyde (American, 1926- ), I have endeavored to preserve and present his body of work. Though this process is ongoing, great strides have been made in cataloging, digitizing, and organizing this enormous collection.
Those interested in abstract art, beautifully executed commercial art, and candid documentary photographs are in for a treat when they explore the Scott Hyde Archives.
